The back of a business card is the most wasted space in print. Printers bill it as an upgrade, so people leave it blank to save money. Digital printing used to sit a clear step below offset in quality. That gap has closed. From the Ricoh C7200 generation onward, the output is difficult to tell apart from offset on all but a few specific design cases, such as very large flat areas of a single solid color.
Print Only What You Need, Because We Do Not Run Offset at All
RedPrinting does not offer offset printing on business cards at all, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation. Digital has no plates and no makeready, so 100 business cards is a real order rather than a favor, and it is produced in 1 to 2 business days. Order the quantity you will actually hand out, then reorder when your title or number changes, instead of storing three years of business cards you will eventually bin. Printing what you need and nothing more is the least wasteful way to make a card, and it is the only way we make them.

1Does double-sided printing cost extra?
No. Single-sided and double-sided business cards are the same price at every quantity. Print the back with a QR code, a map, your service list, or a second language at no additional cost.
2How thick is 14pt paper?
14pt measures roughly 0.014 inches thick, which is 300gsm. It is the weight the business card industry treats as its premium standard, about two and a half times heavier than ordinary letterhead.
In the hand it feels rigid rather than flimsy, holds a clean edge in a wallet, and is clearly a step above the thin 12pt and 100lb cards commonly handed out at events.
3Should I choose 14pt or 16pt?
14pt at 300gsm is the professional standard and the better value, and it is what we recommend unless you have a specific reason to go heavier. It is the weight most business cards are printed on and it reads as professional to everyone who receives it.
16pt at 350gsm is noticeably more substantial, the kind of weight people remark on when you hand it over. It suits luxury services, high-value consulting, and cards that are doing a lot of the selling. Everything else is identical between the two: same glossy surface, same presses, same double-sided pricing.
4Can I add matte or gloss lamination?
No, and it is a deliberate decision rather than a missing option. Lamination is a plastic film bonded to the paper, and once applied the card can no longer be recycled as paper. Leaving it off is one small environmental commitment we keep on every order.
You lose very little for it. The 14pt stock has its own glossy surface, so color still reproduces vividly, and an uncoated card takes pen and pencil, which a laminated card will not.
5What printers do you use?
We print on Ricoh Pro C7200 and C9500 production digital presses. They hold color consistently across an entire run and register the front and back to each other accurately, so a centered design stays centered on both sides.
6Why digital printing instead of offset?
Offset requires plates and a makeready process before the first usable sheet comes off the press, and that fixed setup cost is what makes short runs expensive elsewhere. Digital has neither, so 100 business cards is a normal order and it can be produced in 1 to 2 business days.
It also means you can reorder whenever your title, address, or phone number changes instead of storing boxes of outdated business cards.
7How long until I receive my business cards?
Production takes 1 to 2 business days. Once your business cards leave us, transit time depends on how far you are:
California, Nevada and nearby states: 1 to 2 business days on standard shipping.
Midwest and East Coast: about 5 business days on standard shipping.
Expedited shipping: 1 to 3 business days nationwide.
If you are in California, expedited shipping arrives no sooner than standard, so there is no reason to pay for it. Standard already reaches you in 1 to 2 days.

8Should I pay for expedited shipping?
It depends entirely on where you are. Within California it is not worth it, because standard shipping already arrives in 1 to 2 business days and expedited does not beat that.
For the Midwest and East Coast it makes a real difference, cutting roughly 5 business days down to 1 to 3. If your deadline is tight, call us at +1 (818) 213-5871 and we will tell you which option actually gets your business cards there in time.
9Should I choose square or rounded corners?
Square corners are the classic business card profile and cost less. Rounded corners are die-cut after printing at a 0.15 inch radius, which gives a softer, more contemporary look and keeps the corners from fraying in a pocket or wallet over time.
Both use the same 14pt stock and the same printing. It is purely a question of the look you want.
10How should I set up my business card file?
Build your document at 3.75" x 2.25" to include bleed, in CMYK at 300 DPI or higher. That is the 3.5" x 2" trim size plus the US standard 1/8 inch bleed on each edge. Outline all fonts and rasterize transparency and effects before saving. We accept PDF, JPG, PNG, and Adobe Illustrator files.
Because we use the industry standard measurement, any existing business card file or template will work as is. Keep text and logos at least 1/8 inch inside the trim line so nothing is trimmed off.
11Do you offer design services?
Not at this time. We print from finished, print-ready artwork only, which is part of how we keep prices low and turnaround short.

12What is the minimum order for business cards?
The minimum is 100 business cards. Because we print digitally, a 100 card order gets the same press, the same paper, and the same color quality as a 1,000 card order.

- Outline your fonts – Convert all text to outlines or curves so typefaces render correctly on our end.
- Use CMYK color mode – Printing is a CMYK process. RGB files are converted automatically, and bright neon or vivid blues may shift slightly.
- Flatten transparency – Complex transparency and drop shadows can behave unpredictably; flatten them before exporting.
- Embed or attach linked images – Missing links are the most common reason a file gets sent back.
Image Resolution
300 DPI at final print size is the target.
Resolution is measured at the size the artwork will actually be printed. A 300 DPI image looks crisp on a 2-inch sticker but turns soft when stretched across a 24-inch poster. Always check the pixel dimensions against the finished size, not against how the file looks on screen.
Web images pulled from a website or social media are usually 72 DPI, which is roughly a quarter of the detail we need. Enlarging a low-resolution file doesn't add detail back — it only makes the softness more visible.
Low-quality artwork? Send it anyway. Our designers will do everything possible to bring it up to print standard, and we'll tell you honestly if a file won't hold up.
Choosing Your Material

Clear stickers are printed on transparent vinyl, so the surface underneath becomes part of the design. They're waterproof, tear-resistant, and work beautifully on glass bottles, cups, laptops, and windows where a white sticker edge would look out of place.
Because there's no white backing, light colors and white ink behave differently than they do on paper. Designs with bold shapes, dark colors, or deliberate negative space tend to read best.

Sticker sheets let you print several different designs together on one backing sheet. Our sheet templates come pre-populated with placeholder artwork that you replace with your own files.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
The issues that most often send a file back for revision.
- No bleed on the background – Artwork that stops at the die line leaves white edges when the cut shifts. Extend it a full 0.075 inch past the finished edge.
- Text too close to the edge – Anything outside the safe area can be trimmed off. Pull text and logos at least 0.075 inch inside the die line.
- Low-resolution images – Artwork saved from a website prints soft and pixelated. Work from the original high-resolution file whenever possible.
- Live fonts not outlined – Fonts we don't have installed get substituted. Convert all type to outlines before exporting.
- RGB color mode – Vivid RGB colors can't always be matched in CMYK. Design in CMYK to see accurate colors from the start.
- Die line left in the artwork – The cut line is a guide, not a design element. Remove it or keep it on its own separate layer.
- Wrong template size – Make sure the template you downloaded matches the size you actually ordered.
